Masala Dosa

Seit Mai 2011 gibt es im exotischen Supermarkt Prosi eine indische Cafeteria. Die Familie kommt aus Süd-Indien, es gibt täglich unterschiedliche Frühstücksangebote wie Dosa, Iddli und Appam. Zusätzlich im Angebot Samosas, Pakoras, Veg, Non-Veg Thali uvm.

Hier gibt es mein absolutes Lieblingsgericht der südindischen Küche, das in Wien kaum zu bekommen ist: Masala Dosa, eine knusprige Palatschinke aus Reismehl gefüllt mit einer wüzigen Kartoffelmischung. Dazu isst man Sambar (Soße auf Linsenbasis - kann scharf sein), diverse Chutneys (Kokos, Tomaten, Minze,…) und - nach belieben - Hot Sauce. Am besten ist man das Ganze mit den Händen, dh. einfach stückchenweiße Dosa in das Sambar und die Chutneys eintunken und ab in den Mund. Man kleckert ordentlich rum, aber das gehört dazu. Das Sambar ist wunderbar scharf, die Dosa super knusprig, und die Füllung richtig gut gewürzt. Nach einer Dosa ist man dazu verleitet noch eine zu bestellen… Und eine Dosa kostet nur € 4,90.

Ladies and gents roll-up your sleeves, wash your hands and cancel your date tonight cause this meal will leave you smelling like a Keralan lorry driver who just finished an all-nighter from Trivandrum to Coimbatore.  But fellow foodies its well worth the stank! In dosa we trust and trust me...this dosa, just like its makers, are straight outta Kerala.  I recommend sticking to the dosas, idli and other typical South Indian fare.  While some other dishes may still be tasty, they are interpretations of North Indian classics...kinda like a German preparing you a Wiener Schnitzel.. *ahem* enough said.
